Spring Golf Tips for the 2019 Golf Season

by Jeremiah Bohannon on Apr 01, 2019
Rejoice! Golf season is upon us! The days are getting warmer, the grass is turning green, and The Masters is less than 2 weeks away. It’s time to dust off the sticks, call up your friends, pack the cooler, and head to your favorite track for a round. With all the excitement of golf season, it’s easy to forget about some of the challenges that come with golfing in the spring. Outlined below are some of the most common issues that we hear from golfers, and some tips and tricks on how to overcome them. Everyone wants to find the fastest way to their mid-season form and we’re here to help! Mud Balls: You hear it all the time when you watch an early season PGA Tour event. A player will hit a shot and then exclaim “Mud ball!” pretty much as soon as they make contact. Mud balls are just pieces of mud stuck to your golf ball. They could be visible, or they could be lingering out of sight. If you’re not playing “lift, clean, and place,” mud balls are a pretty regular occurrence in the spring season. There’s not much you can do to prevent them from happening, but there is something you can do to hit better shots should this happen to you. The best way to combat a mud ball, is to make sure your club face is as clean as possible. The cleaner you can get your club face at contact, the better chance that the mud will fly right off and still allow you to get the most amount of spin on your shot. Either way, use a wet and dry golf towel and a dirt destroying golf brush to keep your club faces as clean as possible and make great early season contact. On the green, small specs of mud and dirt on your ball can make a huge difference in the way a putt rolls. Make sure you’re cleaning your golf ball before every putt with an award-winning golf ball towel like this one. Easily attach this secret weapon right to your belt and start draining the long ones! Slow it down: Seriously! Golf season just started. Don’t throw your back out trying to rip a 300+ yard drive because you want to show off to the cart girl. The best way to get back to your mid-season form is to make consistent and repeatable swings that focus on contact. The lighter grip pressure and smoother swing the better.Use a discreet swing training aid like this one and your friends will never know how you won the first 10 matches of the season. Rain Golf: Spring is rain golf season. Even if the forecast says sun, the weather in the spring is unpredictable. The last thing you want is to get soaked on the 3rd hole and ruin the round. Frogger Golf makes the best rain golf towel in the game, so when those early season showers pop up, you’ll be prepared. When you’re planning on riding, make sure you have a golf cart poncho like this one to keep the weather out of your cart. Do you have some special spring golf tips that you’d like to share? Feel free to comment below or reach out to us on social media @froggergolf. Happy golf season! We’ll see you out there.
