PGA Results: 2014 Zurich Classic

by Jeremiah Bohannon on Apr 27, 2014
IMG_0575This week is a week of first-time winners on all the major tours. Quite impressive. PGA Tour Zurich Classic TPC Louisiana, Avondale, La. High winds at the TPC of Louisiana, no surprise, brought extra drama to a battle between 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley and South Korea’s Seung-Yul Noh. The 22-year-old Noh held the lead at the Zurich Classic after three rounds, but stumbled with three bogeys in the final round to fall into a tie with Bradley. But Bradley would go four over par over two holes, the fifth and sixth, bogey and triple bogey. Noh held on, inspired to victory in honor of the 300 missing or dead since a passenger ship sank in his home country on April 16th. Speaking of the ferry accident Noh hoped his win would bring some positive news, “Hopefully, they’ll be happy.” LPGA Tour Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic Lake Merced Golf Club, San Francisco, Calif. Korean born New Zealander Lydia Ko was the top female amateur golfer in the world for 130 weeks before she turned pro in October of 2013. It only took Ko six months to record her first LPGA Tour victory, the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic at Lake Merced Golf Club. Ko held off perhaps the hottest LPGA player, Stacy Lewis, by one shot with a final round 69. To bring into perspective how impressive Ko’s first LPGA Tour victory is, she also celebrated her 17th birthday during the week of the tournament. European Tour China Open Shenzen, China France’s Alexander Levy recorded a late Sunday double bogey. Normally a bad hole like that will cost a player a chance at a victory, but Levy’s 69 was still enough to secure a four shot win over Tommy Fleetwood. Levy’s victory was in-part due to a fantastic 2nd round 62. Other notables in the top 10 in China were Alvara Quiros (T3), Francesco Molinari (4th), Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson (T5).
