PGA Results: 2011 Tiger at the Frys
Tiger at the Frys
This week's Frys.com Open was not a regular Frys. Tiger Woods in the field meant much more media coverage and fan interest. After an opening 73 (+2) it was in question as to whether or not Tiger would make the cut. A 2nd round 68 assured that Tiger would play on the weekend.
Saturday and Sunday would see more consistent play from Woods as he would record his 2nd and 3rd consecutive 68's (-3). Despite making the cut and playing better golf than he has shown in some time, his finishing score of -7 was still 10 shots out of first place, good enough for a T30 finish.
Is Tiger back? Perhaps not yet, but he may be on the right track.
Record setting 17th playoff
Parity has been the theme all year on the PGA Tour, with no player winning more than two times. Tight finishes have been a weekly occurrence and there have been many playoffs. This week would be no different.
Briny Baird and Bryce Molder finished regulation at -17 and entered a record breaking 17th playoff on Tour this season. Both players turned up the heat in this six hole playoff which featured all par-4 holes (17, 18, 17, 18, 17, 18). Both players birdied the first, third and fifth playoff holes. Molder finally broke the tie with a birdie on the 6th playoff hole for his first win in 121 starts on Tour.
Bud Cauley
Bud Cauley finished in solo 3rd place in the Frys. Bud is a young Nationwide Tour player who is trying to be the first player since Ryan Moore to make the jump straight to the PGA Tour from college. This 3rd place finish in his last Tour exemption for the year, assures him of a spot next week at the McGladrey Classic and a chance at making the jump.
Watch for Bud. He is surely a rising star.
