PGA Preview: 2012 Georgia at Sea Island

PGA Tour This week the fall series continues in Georgia at Sea Island, the McGladrey Classic.  Purse this week is $4 million with the winner's share coming in at $720K.  Last year's champion was Ben Crane. The host course this week is the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, GA.  This course is a 7,055 yard track with a par value of 70.  The course opened in 1929 and was designed by Colt and Allison, then a redesign was done by Tom Fazio. Once again, we are coming down to the wire for the top 125 and their tour cards for 2013.  While some players who are exempt are looking for a big payday, other players are fighting for the right to play on Tour next year.  Notables in the field this week include Ricky Barnes, Gary Woodland, Vijay Singh, John Daly, Zach Johnson, Rocco Mediate.   Jim Furyk is also in the field, looking to put a better finish on what has been a close but heartbreaking season. LPGA Tour The ladies are in Incheon, South Korea this week to contest the LPGA KEB HanaBank Championship. This tournament is a 54 hole event with a $1.8 million purse. Returning champion is Yani Tseng. The host course for the LPGA Keb HanaBank Championship is Sky 72 Golf Club Ocean Course. This Jack Nicklaus designed track will be playing at 6,364 yards for the ladies, with a par value of 72. In the field this week is Tiger Woods's niece, Cheyenne Woods, on a sponsor invite. Also on sponsor invite is Michelle Wie and a handful of Asian competitors. But as the season winds down, players are vying for a 2013 PGA Tour card. This week the Web.com Tour is in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida for the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open. Total purse is $600K with the winner clocking in at $108K. More importantly though, are the opportunities to advance to the big Tour. In the field this week are some former PGA Tour players like Fred Funk. Some of these former PGA Tour players are attempting to get their status back: Jeff Gove, Kevin Tway, Duffy Waldorf, Lee Janzen, Woody Austin.
