Golf Tips: Brace Yourself in the Wind
The golf swing is very complicated. Being balanced in the swing is crucial to hitting a good shot. High winds can blow the body like a ship's sail and move it around during the swing, making solid and balanced contact even more difficult. This Tuesday Tip is short, simple and very effective:
Wind = Wide
In a regular golf stance the feet would normally be about shoulder width apart. In windy conditions, take that stance and make it wider until you feel like your base is able to keep you steady.
Full swing or putting
The wide stance compensation for windy conditions is not exclusive to full swing shots. Widen the stance when putting as well. Think of Kenny Perry or Padraig Harrington's wide stances and try to emulate them. Your base, balance and feel in windy conditions will improve.
Try it!
