Green grass, ocean waves, whales jumping in the water, 83 degrees, birdies flying… Must be the first two weeks of the 2014 PGA Tour “calendar.” It isn’t the first of the current PGA Tour season though, that started a few weeks ago with the new wrap around schedule.
This past weekend the PGA Tour was at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii for the Sony Open. Up for grabs was 500 FedEx Cup points and $5.6 million in prize money, the winner taking home $1,008,000.
By the time the final round came about there was a point in time where seven players were tied for the lead. Seven. Anyone’s game.
In horse race it is fun to watch a horse break from the pack and win. That’s just what Jimmy Walker did. He had a string of four birdies in five holes of his back nine to put him one shot ahead of the crowd.
Amazingly Jimmy Walker now has TWO wins on the current season. He won the Frys.com Open back in October, the first official week of the PGA Tour season. Yes it is confusing and yes it does not seem right.
Walker will take the lead when the updated FedEx Cup points standings are updated. A large lead, especially for the 2nd week of January.

The European Tour season has now completed its first event. South African player Louis Oosthuizen found himself one shot off the lead behind Branden Grace with two holes to play.
Nothing a couple of birdies can’t fix.
Oosthuizen has been fighting back problems and the host course fortunately did not require hit to hit the most painful club in the bag for him, the driver.
When the Masters rolls around that will be a different story. Oosthuizen will need to have his back issues behind him, so to speak.
