"I'm not sure what I'm thinking right now. It's been a great week. You go from a very low point to a high point. I'm not sure I expected to maybe recover this quickly. You know, I'll take it." ~Kyle StanleyEuropean Tour 43 year old Scotsman Paul Lawrie shot a score of -15 to win the Qatar Masters. The Scot's final round 65 was the difference, giving him a four shot cushion over Jason Day and Peter Hanson. Lowrie cracks the top 50 in the world rankings, and hopes to stay there in order to receive an invitation to play in the Masters Tournament at Augusta National in April. Lawrie wasn't the biggest story of the tournament however. John Daly played surprisingly well, even surprising himself. At several points in the tournament Daly held the lead. Daly finished at -9 for the tournament, good enough for a solo 4th place finish. Daly may not have his PGA Tour card, but it looks like we might be seeing him in Europe more.
PGA Results: 2012 Waste Management Open
PGA Tour
For the 2nd week in a row, a PGA Tour player blew a large lead on the final round to lose the tournament. This past week at the Waste Management Open in Scottsdale AZ, Spencer Levin brought a six shot lead into the final round, but fired a four over par 75. Kyle Stanley conversely shot a 65 in the final round, a TEN shot swing between himself and Levin. The 65 was enough to record a one shot victory over the surging Ben Crane.
Ironically, Stanley was the player who blew the lead last week, making a snowman (8) on the final hole at Torrey Pines. Apparently the sting of blowing that lead didn't last long.
