PGA Results: 2012 Masters

by Jeremiah Bohannon on Apr 15, 2012
PGA Tour Well the Masters is past us now, but there was some serious golf and serious prize money to be earned this week on the PGA Tour.   The Tour was in Hilton Head, SC at the Harbour Town Golf Links contesting the RBC Heritage. A nice surprise this week was the resurgence of Boo Weekly, following a hot 2nd round 66.  Boo would eventually finish in one of his best tournaments in a long time, a tie for 6th. More surprise appearances in the top 10 finishers were Billy Mayfair (T4) and Kevin Stadler (T4). Zach Johnson (-9) put on a run at the end to claim a solo 2nd, but it wasn't close to enough to catch the leader Carl Pettersson.  Pettersson fired two killer rounds over Friday and Saturday, 65 and 66 respectively.  He carried that momentum into the final round and claimed a huge five shot margin of victory at -14.  Amazingly Pettersson's five shot margin included three bogeys on the same par-5, the 15th, along with a double bogey on the 14th in round 1.  Hot putting was the key to this victory as Pettersson finished ranked 1st in putts per green in regulation and greens in regulation. European Tour Louis Oosthuizen is the hottest player in golf right now, all due respect to recent Masters winner Bubba Watson.  Oosthuizen, a 29 year old South African farm boy, posted a score of -17 to win the European Tour's Maybank Malaysian Open. Oosthuizen traveled some 30 hours across 12 time zones to arrive at the host venue, Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, following his historic double-eagle capped round at the Masters where he finished 2nd in a playoff. Champions Tour Michael Allen shot three rounds in the 60's to notch a victory at the Encompass Insurance Pro-Am of Tampa Bay.  Host venue: TPC Tampa Bay in Lutz, Florida. Allen held off Kenny Perry by three shots, despite Perry's final round 65. Players rounding out the top five in Tampa Bay: Peter Senior (3rd), Corey Pavin (4th) and Bernhard Langer (5th). Nationwide Tour How well would you play, knowing you'd lost your wallet?  That didn't stop first time Nationwide Tour winner Alex Aragon.  Aragon fired a final round 66 to come from behind to win the Nationwide Tour's TPC Stonebrae Championship. Pro veteran Duffy Waldorf had a chance to force a playoff but just missed a birdie putt on the final hole which would have tied him for the lead.
