PGA Results: 2012 Jack Nicklaus Memorial Tournament

by Jeremiah Bohannon on Jun 03, 2012
PGA Tour Tiger Woods recorded his 2nd victory of 2012 yesterday at Jack Nicklaus' Memorial Tournament.  Woods came from behind Spencer Levin and Rory Sabbatini and was paired with Rickie Fowler.  His round of 67 left those three in the rear view mirror as he won by two strokes.  The final round Tiger played was nearly perfect, even according to Tiger who said in a post round interview that he hardly missed a shot. Shot Of The Year One shot Tiger may have missed was his tee shot on the par-3 16th which ended up in deep rough above the green.  With water lurking behind the flagstick and an incredibly difficult and fast downhill slope to land his ball on, Tiger opened up his lob wedge and took a full swing.  The ball landed on the upper portion of the green and trickled down to the hole just like the hole-out on the 16th in the 2005 Masters.  Just like the 2005 Masters, Tiger's nearly impossible shot ended up dropping and the crowd erupted in an earth shattering roar. Jack Nicklaus said that shot was one of the best shots he'd ever seen. With The Win With the win Tiger tied Jack Nicklaus' career win record on Tour at 73.  Quite a poetic place to do that, at "Jack's" tournament with the Golden Bear watching. With the win Woods jumped 14 spots in the FedEx Cup points race and now sits in 3rd place behind Jason Dufner and Hunter Mahan. Tiger also moved up to #4 in the world rankings, as well as improving his Ryder Cup position. Champions Tour Despite an unbelievable round of -9 62 by Kirk Triplett, Jay Haas won by five shots on the senior circuit's Principal Charity Classic in West Des Moines, Iowa.  With brilliant ball striking and iron play Hass had built up such a lead over the three days that Triplett's round didn't matter. Haas won the tournament as well in 2007 and 2008 and now is the only player to have won this tournament three times. Nationwide Tour At the Rex Hospital Open in Raleigh, N.C. Scott Parel and James Hahn ended regulation play deadlocked at -13.  A playoff ensued at TPC Wakefield Plantation. Both players made par on the first hole, the par-4 18th.  The 2nd playoff hole was the par-5 9th.  Parel made par, opening up the opportunity for Hahn to record his first Nationwide Tour victory with a birdie.  He did just that.  Following the win Han said, "This is amazing.  I can't believe I won this golf tournament." LPGA Tour The LPGA Tour contested the Shoprite LPGA Classic this past week at Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey. Stacey Lewis earned her second victory of this 2012 LPGA season by firing rounds of 65-65-71.  At -12 Lewis' nearest threat Katherine Hull finished four shots behind. With the win Lewis moved up four spots in the LPGA's Rolex Rankings to No. 3.
