PGA Results: 2012 Hyundai Tournament
Normally the Frogger Blogger's Monday Wrap covers the weekend winners on the PGA Tour and other golf news items from the past weekend. But since the PGA Tour's first event of the year, the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, is a Monday finish, there's nothing to wrap in that regard. There are a few noteworthy items to cover today though, so welcome to Monday's News.
Oosthuizen Wins Africa Open
Former British Open winner Louis Oosthuizen won his 2nd Africa Open in a row on the European Tour. Oosthuizen (-27) edged out Tjaart VAn Der Walt by two shots and fellow South African Retief Goosen by three. Speaking of fellow South Africans, five of the top six finishers in the African Open were playing on their home soil.
Oosthuizen takes the early lead in the season long Race to Dubai.
Steve Stricker brings five shot lead into final round of Hyundai Tournament of Champions
On the PGA Tour, Steve Stricker holds a five shot lead for the 2nd day in a row at the season opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii. Stricker lost the five shot lead during the course of round three yesterday, but built it back up by the time his round was completed. With a five shot lead and very consistent play, it will take quite a charge by another player or a large meltdown for Stricker not to win.
Don't forget that tonight is the final round of the Tournament of Champions. Check last week's post for the TV schedule. Yes tonight's broadcast does overlap with college football's national championship game, so watch the golf and record the football game on your DVR for later viewing!
Tiger Woods announces first PGA Tour stop
Late in 2011 Tiger Woods announced that he'd be adding a new tournament to his 2012 schedule. After much speculation, the mystery has been revealed. Tiger's first tournament on the PGA Tour for 2012 will be at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. The tournament is a pro-am format, contested at Pebble Beach Golf Links as well as Monterey Peninsula CC and Spyglass Hill. Pebble Beach is of course the home to some famous Tiger wins, the biggest being his 2000 US OPEN where he lapped the field by 15 shots. In that Open, Tiger was the only player under par at -12. The nearest competitors were at +3.
Who will Tiger pick as a pro-am partner for the pro-am? Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys QB, is rumored to be the lucky one.
