PGA Results: 2011 WGC Bridgestone

Good Monday to all Frogger followers.  Hope you had a fantastic weekend.  It was certainly a fun weekend to be a golf fan with the WGC Bridgestone at Firestone in Ohio, plus the PGA Tour's Reno-Tahoe Open in Reno. Adam Scott Wins Bridgestone With Steve Williams On His Bag Adam Scott won the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio with close to a flawless four days.  Statistically Scott was in the top 10 in many of the crucial stats like driving distance (6th), putts per round (T4, 26.5), putts per green in regulation (4th), greens in regulation (T9th) and tied for 1st in sand saves. Scott has always been an excellent striker of the ball, and now perhaps with the addition of the long putter and improved short game he will add more victories to his now record of 8 on the PGA Tour. Strangely, Scott's win wasn't the biggest headline of the tournament.  In fact, the win was realistically 3rd place in the headline department. Tiger Woods Tiger Woods was the biggest headline for the tournament, as he returned to action for the first time since leaving The Players Championship after nine holes back in May.  Tiger looked fairly solid and the swing under control after the first round where he shot a round of -2.  On Tiger's bag was his old friend Bryon Bell, though Tiger made it clear that Bell is only a temporary replacement. Tiger's play progressively got more shaky as the weekend rolled on, looking like logic would have dictated, a rusty golfer who needs more time on the practice range and in the heat of competition.  Tiger ended up finishing tied for 37th place after making up quite a bit of ground on Sunday's back nine with three birdies in a row on holes 15-17. Steve Williams It is strange that the caddie is a bigger story than the winner of the tournament who the caddie is carrying for, but that was the case this week.  Tiger Woods's former caddie Steve Williams grabbed more headlines than his player, and actually won more money than his former employer. Following the tournament, Williams made many comments which were puzzling, saying that this was the best week of his life and the best win.  Hard to believe with so many huge major championships under his belt, like the classic 2008 U.S. Open (the Rocco Mediate playoff at Torrey Pines), that winning the WGC Bridgestone could qualify for such a distinction. There's surely more to come from the Woods/Williams drama. Reno-Tahoe Open Meanwhile, the PGA Tour's regular event parallel to the WGC Bridgestone was the Reno-Tahoe Open. Scott Piercy rode a course record 61 on Saturday to a one shot victory over Pat Perez at the Nicklaus designed Montreux Golf and Country Club in Reno, Nevada.  The 61 included an unbelievable string of EIGHT birdies in a row from holes 2-9 and an eagle on the 18th hole. The Reno-Tahoe victory is Piercy's first PGA Tour win.
