PGA Preview: 2012 WGC Cadillac Championship

PGA Tour - WGC Cadillac Championship This week will be fantastic.  The WGC (World Golf Championship) Cadillac Championship is on tap, from the famous TPC Blue Monster in Doral, Florida.  "WGC" events are events co-sanctioned by the European Tour, the Japan Golf Tour, the PGA TOUR, the PGA Tour of Australasia and the Southern Africa Tour. WGC events attract a larger international field and usually most of the world's top players compete. This week is no different.  The competitors this week include new world #1 Rory McIlory, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood and most of the top 50 players in the world.  How will Rory McIlroy handle his new #1 ranking? Will Tiger Woods build on his stellar final round 62 last week at the Honda which vaulted him up to 2nd in the tournament behind McIlory? Blue Monster With a name like the "Blue Monster" how can a tournament on this course not be fun to watch? The TPC Blue Monster is located at Doral Resort in Doral, Florida. The course plays 7,125 yards from the tournament tees.  The course was originally designed by Dick Wilson but was redesigned by newly crowned Olympic golf course architect Gil Hanse. The course features long fairways, undulating greens which were recently resurfaced, and deep Bermuda rough.  The newly surfaced greens should prove a new challenge for the Tour players.  The 18th hole at the Blue Monster is ranked by Golf Magazine as one of the top 100 holes in the world. Nationwide Tour The Nationwide Tour is still outside of the USA.  This week the NWT is in Chile at the Chile Classic.  The Chile Classic marks the first time the NWT will be making a stop in Santiago, Chile. 17 year old Chilean amateur Juan Cerda, one of Chile's best, will be teeing it up against the pros. Lets watch how he fares. Champions Tour The Champions Tour is off this week, but will be in action next week at the Toshiba Classic in Newport Beach, California. LPGA Tour The LPGA Tour is also off this week, returning to action next week at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup in Phoenix, Arizona.
