Golf Tips: Use a Low Compression Ball in Cold Temperatures
Spring is coming, but it is still cold in many parts of north America and Canada. How does it feel when you hit that long iron a little thin and the temps are in the 30's? Not fun.
The ball doesn't go as far in the cold. The cold temperatures make the ball harder. The harder the ball is, the harder it is to compress. Back in the "old" days, we used women's golf balls in the winter time. Women's golf balls are softer than regular golf balls, and compressed more easily. Strangely, we got our distance back in the winter time by playing women's golf balls.
These days there are many top line golf balls which come in lower compression. They are great for winter conditions and the feel is quite nice, even in the cold.
Here's a list of lower compression balls you can try during cold temperatures:
Bridgestone B330RX and B330RXS
Wilson DUO
Srixon ZStar SL
Maxfli Revolution
Titleist DT Solo
Nike PD Soft
Noodle Softest
There you go. Play one of the balls above until the temps are warmer! If you have a slower swing speed, try them out in the summer too. You might find a few extra yards.
