Golfing in bare feet can be fun, and good for your game![/caption]
Today's Friday Fun is a combination fun and golf tip post. This is a case of having fun while improving your game.
Play in bare feet
What do golf shoes do? The spikes on the bottom of the shoe help with traction and stability.
So what if you played without golf shoes? Would you be able to swing or would you slip badly? Try it some time. One way to focus on balance and keeping the body "quiet" in the golf swing is to hit shots in bare feet. You may find yourself slipping all over the place for the first few swings, especially if there's a bit of moisture in the grass. As you get used to swinging without golf shoes on, you'll start to get the feel of great golf balance in the swing.
The adjustments you'll make will not only help your balance, but your timing as well. Sudden, jerky motions will likely cause slips. Your transition from the top of the swing to the downswing will likely become more smooth and transparent.
If your weight is moving around a lot at impact and in the finish, playing in bare feet will expose that as well. Learning how to make solid contact and finish in a nice position with most of your weight on your forward foot, in bare feet, will greatly help your stability and balance.
