Best Golf Course Beers 2019

by Jeremiah Bohannon on Jun 16, 2019
We talk a lot in golf about finding the sweet spot. That purely struck shot that you can barely feel come off the club face is one of the greatest feelings in the world. Today, however, we’re talking about a different sweet spot. This legendary place we’re referring to is when you’ve had just the right amount of beer to swing freely, but not too much so that you can’t swing at all. If you’re one of the many who likes to indulge in a few adult beverages on the course, you hopefully know what we’re talking about. Some of the best rounds of our lives have been when we find that groove. As the weather heats up here in Oregon, we’ve had a couple stimulating conversations about what the best golf course beers are. There are a few requirements that a beer needs to have to be good on the golf course. Most notably, it needs to be in a can. Second, it needs to be light enough so that you can have a few on the course without getting completely plastered. Obviously, it’s a matter of preference, but if you want the guaranteed crowd pleasers, you probably don’t want to show up with a 12er of triple IPAs. Below are our definitive best golf course beers in each of four important categories that are available for purchase Nationwide (plus a little love for our home town!). Least Expensive: Natural Light You don’t need Smylie Kaufman to tell you that Natural Light is one of the top golf course beers out there. It’s extremely drinkable, only 4.2% alcohol, and reports are that you can find an 18-pack for as cheap as 10 dollars. Also, with only 95 calories per can, you’ll burn off whatever you drank by the end of the round! This is the perfect beer when you want to save a little money, but still have something refreshing on the course. Most Crushable: Coors (Light) If “Nattys” aren’t your jam, enter Coors. Either the lights or the “banquets” are perfectly crushable golf course lagers. A little tastier (and more expensive) than Natural Light, Coors is a crowd pleaser for a hot day on the course. A 12 pack will run you around $13, so although it’s pricier than Natty, you pay for quality.   Best Value: Modelo If you want a step up from the cheap stuff but still want an incredibly delicious and easy-drinking lager, get yourself some Modelos. Imported from Mexico, this light lager is our top-ranked golf course beer. Extremely drinkable and refreshing but low on ABV, Modelo makes it into our golf cart-coolers time and time again. A 12 pack of these will run you about $16, but they’re worth every penny.   Best Craft: Sierra Nevada “Pale” If you’re not a light lager kind of person, Sierra Nevada makes a pale ale that is perfectly drinkable but still gives you the hop-kick you’re looking for. Available nationwide in 12-packs of cans (about $18), Sierra Nevada Pale has been a favorite of many for decades. Grab a pack of these for the course and your golf buddies will not be disappointed.   Best of Bend, Oregon!: Sunriver Brewing “Rippin” This beer goes down easy but still packs a punch. With notes of tropical fruit, pine, and citrus, Rippin is one of our all-time favorite golf course beers. They call it an IPA but it drinks more like a lager. Easy-going enough to have a few on the course, but strong enough to get you to that “sweet spot,” Rippin will be a favorite for years to come. We hope you think of this list next time you need to grab a few for the course. Do you have another beer that’s your golfing go-to? Comment below or reach out to us on social media @froggergolf!
