PGA Tour
Hyundai Tournament of Champions

The 2013 PGA Tour season begins this week.  Tough go for the 30 players who made it into the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.  Must be tough having to travel to Hawaii to play golf in a no-cut event.

Tournament Overview

  • Format: 4 rounds of stroke play. No cut.
  • Purse: $5,700,00
  • Winner’s Share: $1,120,000
  • Fedex Cup points: 500

Venue

This week’s venue is the famous Plantation Course at Kapalua in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii.  Kapalua is a great track for drama which produces 400+ yard drives because of the elevation changes on holes like #18.  The course has been nicknamed “Couples-Lua” in years past because Fred Couples was so dominant there.  The course is a par-73 with a yardage of 7,411.

Field

This week’s field consists of 30 players.  Gaining entry to this field is simple: win on the PGA Tour the previous year before.  That being said, there are many winners in the previous season who opt to sit out this tournament, like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and others.  Players to watch this week include Bubba Watson, Brandt Snedeker, Hunter Mahan and Ian Poulter.
