TigerWoodsPGA TOUR
the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance
Dates: June 4-7
Venue: Muirfield Village Golf Club, Dublin, Ohio

What an interesting weekend it was at the Memorial Tournament this weekend.  The Memorial is hosted by golf’s greatest ever player, Jack Nicklaus.

In the spotlight this week was the man who has been trying to overtake Jack Nicklaus as golf’s best ever, Tiger Woods.  Woods would tie one of Jack’s records this week, but not a good one to tie.  The tied record?  Worst score as a professional.  After barely making the cut by one shot on Friday, Woods carded his worst round as a professional golfer, a 13-over 85.  Jack’s worst round as a pro was also an 85, but not at the age of 39 like Woods.  Jack was 63 years old and playing in the Masters Tournament.  Not good for Woods, who ended up dead last on the leaderboard at the end of the third round.

Because of an odd number of players who made the cut, Woods was first out and playing by himself on Sunday.  This is referred to as “dew sweeper” in the golf world.  Despite playing alone and at his own pace, Woods fired a 2-over 74 on Sunday to finish 29 shots behind the eventual winner David Lingmerth.  The next to last player on the leaderboard was eight shots ahead of Woods.

These numbers and struggles do not reflect well on the former world #1 with two weeks before the U.S. Open.

How Swede it is. Sweden’s Alex Noren blew out the field this past week at the Nordea Masters in Malmo, Sweden. Noren’s final round 71 extended his margin to four shots.
