  • Off To A Great Start

golf-cartWe start off 2012 with a strange bit of golf related New Years Day news which comes from the Frogger home state of California.

Yesterday (New Year's Day) a 46 year old man attempted to drive some 74 miles in a golf cart which he stole.  He managed to make it 13 miles.  He was attempting to drive the cart to his home.  He'd left a Wyndham Resort after an argument, spotted a golf cart in a garage, stole five bottles of champagne from said garage, unplugged the golf cart and took off.

The golf cart champagne bandit then proceeded to get lost.  During his aimless travels he was collared and arrested by police.

The owner of the golf cart and champagne was happy to find out that his property will be returned.

No word as to the final score the cart thief posted for his round.

  • 2012 Wrap

Normally during pro golf season Monday is for "Monday Wrap" and covering the happenings on Tour over the weekend.  But since there was no pro action this week and today is the FINAL day of 2012, let's take a look back and one featured post from each month of the past 12.

    January

In January 2012 we showed our line once again at the PGA Show.  We also introduced the Frogger PINK line, where portions of each purchase go to help the fight against breast cancer.

    February

February we added Chambers Bay to the Killer Course list.  Chambers Bay is the home of the 2015 U.S. Open.

    March

In March the rock band Kiss opened up their own miniature golf course in Las Vegas.  Cool.

    April

April is the best month of the year for golf.  Yes, the golf season begins with THE MASTERS!  Bubba Watson wins the green jacket.

    May

Nice guy Matt Kuchar won THE PLAYERS Championship, home of the famous island green #17 at TPC Sawgrass.  Fun tournament to watch.

    June

The U.S. Open trophy was captured by Webb Simpson, but it was Jim Furyk who should have won.  Furyk's errant tee shot on 16th, hooking into the trees left, proved to be the final dagger in his hopes for the victory.

    July

Erie Els won the British Open.  Adam Scott blew a four shot lead in the final round, but showed a high level of class and sportsmanship after the loss.

    August

In August we featured one of the coolest par-3 courses in the world in the Killer Course section, "3Tops" at Treetops Resort.

    September

Brandt Snedeker won the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup trophy.  Oh, and a little bit of cash.  $10,000,000!

    October

In October the Frogger Facebook page reached 20,000 fans!  WOW!

    November

In November we debuted TWO new products, the Arc Angel and Swing Hero training aids, part of the Frogger Tactical Training Series.  Along with the new products we revamped the Frogger website with a new, fresh look.

    December

Funnest post of December was clearly the Frogger Green Monsters video, featuring two mad golf scientists and the "Tee-Minator."

  • R&A and USGA propose rule on anchored clubs / belly putters etc.

Big news in the golf world today.  The two governing bodies of golf, the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A) have released their proposed ruling on anchoring and long putters.  Much debate and reaction has and will continue.  The proposed ruling will take effect in January of 2016.  Lets take a look.

    Allowed

The long putters themselves are not banned in this ruling.  So if you have a long putter, you may continue to use it.  How you use it is another story.

    Disallowed

The key word in this ruling is "anchoring."  Players may no longer anchor a club to their body.  Below are examples of anchoring:

    • Allowing part of the club to be braced against the body, like when a belly putter is put on the belly of the player.  Another example is the style Adam Scott uses, where the long putter is anchored in the upper chest.
    • Forearms may not be anchored against the body either.  So putting a forearm against the chest or parts of the torso will not be allowed.

The image to the right shows what will not be allowed, should the ruling be enacted.

Here is the core of the ruling, from the UGSA website:

    Proposed Changes to Rule 14-1
The proposed change would relabel current Rule 14-1 as Rule 14-1a, and establish Rule 14-1b as described below:
    14-1b Anchoring the Club
In making a stroke, the player must not anchor the club, either “directly” or by use of an “anchor point.”

Note 1:  The club is anchored “directly” when the player intentionally holds the club or a gripping hand in contact with any part of his body, except that the player may hold the club or a gripping hand against a hand or forearm.

Note 2:  An “anchor point” exists when the player intentionally holds a forearm in contact with any part of his body to establish a gripping hand as a stable point around which the other hand may swing the club.
